Adult Education

Fulfilling its mission of being a Bet Midrash, a house of study, Temple Bat Yam encourages lifelong Jewish study through adult education classes.  Students explore our rich Jewish culture and heritage, uncovering new appreciation for their Jewish identity and traditions.

One of the most popular TBY courses is Introduction to Judaism, a 10 session series led by Rabbi David Spey.  The course is of particular interest for anyone wishing to enrich their understanding of Judaism from an adult perspective, those considering joining the Jewish people through the process of conversion, and couples, including those in interfaith relationships, desiring to deepen their understanding and enhance the Jewish components of their family life.

Rabbi Spey also leads weekly Tuesday morning text study. Students will study and discuss rabbinic texts, including Midrash, Mishnah, and Talmud, from an ethical, moral, theological, and social perspective. The course is open to the community.

The community is also invited to join us at Shabbat morning worship. A group discussion of each week’s parashah is incorporated into the service.  For times and dates, check our Worship Schedule.

Adults who never experienced the time-honored rite of passage as a Bar/Bat Mitzvah are invited to join the Adult B’nai Mitzvah program led by Cantor Wendy Autenrieth. Participation is limited to Temple members.

Special programs throughout the year provide opportunities to explore books, Jewish music and Jewish culture.  Please check the TBY calendar for all program listings.
