As announced in the Hakol for several months, we are working on a Temple wide email list. There are two main purposes of the list:
2. To have a contact list for time sensitive matters. Last year, our High Holiday season was also prime time for hurricanes. We had to make last minute changes to both place and time of worship. We used the limited list available to us through Sisterhood. A list with broader distribution would have been helpful. This will also enable us to fulfill the mitzvah of consoling the bereaved. When a death occurs in our congregation, an email list will allow us to get timely notification of the funeral or minyans to our congregation. Ultimately, this will also provide another avenue for distribution of information from our committees. In particular, David Levin, our Social Action chair, has been diligently updating the Social Action committee on events in Darfur, and the need to keep advocating for these victims of genocide. In addition, he lead our Temple's response in support of Jacobs Ladder, a project to assist victims of hurricane Katrina. An email list with wider distribution will also help in fulfilling our responsibility for tikkun olam. What can you do? If you did not receive an email from atty1981@aol.com in September, you are not on the email list or your spam blocker is blocking my emails. Please email me at atty1981@aol.com and let me know you want to be added to the list (and check to make sure I am not on your spam list). If you want your email to be used only for emergency contact info, please specify this in your email.
