SOCIAL ACTION David Levin
Nothing But Nets
Over one billion people live in extreme poverty (individuals who make less than $1 per day and are unable to meet even basic needs such as food and shelter). We can help to fight diseases that are easily preventable and cured, and whose prevalence prevents individuals from escaping the bonds of extreme poverty. One such disease is malaria.
The Union for Reform Judaism has partnered with the Nothing But Nets campaign to combat the spread of malaria. The Union has set a goal of donating $500,000 to supply 50,000 insecticide-treated bed nets to families in sub-Saharan Africa, saving one family at a time, one net at a time.
Want to make a difference? All it takes is $10 to buy a bed net and save lives. Donate online by going to the Union's web page on the Nothing But Nets site: http://nothingbutnets.net/urj or to donate by check please make your check payable to United Nations Foundation, write "Nothing but Nets" in the memo line and send to: United Nations Foundation/Nothing But Nets, PO Box 96539, Washington, DC 20090-6539. As stated on the Union's web page: "Participating in the Union for Reform Judaism's Nothing But Nets campaign is a way to act upon our commitment to pikkuah nefesh, saving a life. We know the spread of malaria is preventable. By taking action, we can reverse this trend with a simple and cost-effective solution. All it takes is $10 to purchase, treat, distribute and monitor a family bed net and save a life. Make a donation and make a difference today!"
